What Makes a Good Leather Putter Cover
The leather, the shape, the closure, the lining and the price. What separates a putter cover that wears in from one that wears out.

Everyone has owned the cover. It looked sharp in the box, went limp by June and spent August hanging off the bag by a tired strip of Velcro.
A good leather putter cover goes the other way. It gets better the more you handle it. Here is what decides which way yours goes.
The leather
Pebbled or smooth comes down to taste, and we make both.
Pebbled grain hides the life a cover actually lives: cart floors, trunk liners, getting tossed onto the fringe while you read a putt. It still looks sharp in year three.
Smooth leather keeps a record of all of it. Every scuff and thumbprint settles into the finish, and after a few seasons it looks like nobody else's. Think of a ball glove, or boots you have worn for ten years.
Either way, it should feel like a good wallet, not a car seat. If it smells like a shower curtain, it is not leather.
The shape
Set the cover down on its own. If it slumps, it will be a sock by next season. A cover with some structure slides on in one motion, without you hunting for the toe while your group walks to the next tee.
The closure
Magnet. Velcro grabs grass and lint, loses its grip over a season, and makes its noise right as your playing partner settles over a four-footer. A magnet closes with one hand and stays closed when the cart hits a root.
The lining
The inside is the part that touches the face you paid for. Fleece or sherpa cushions it. Thin nylon protects about as well as a sandwich bag.
The price
Leather putter covers run from under $30 to well past $200. At the bottom you are usually buying vinyl stamped to look like leather. At the top you are mostly buying a logo and a waiting list.
Ours is $60: real pebbled leather, fleece lined, magnetic closure. That is where we think the value sits.
Keeping it right
Wipe off mud with a damp cloth. Let it dry on its own, away from a heater. Condition it once or twice a season. Do not leave it in a hot trunk for a week in July. Treated like that, brown leather darkens a shade where your hand grabs it, which is exactly what you want.
The four we make
The Leather Blade Putter Cover fits most blade putters and comes in four colors:
- Brown Pebbled. Our best seller, and the one that wears in best.
- Gulf Blue. Color without shouting.
- Lunar Grey. Goes with any bag you will ever own.
- Casino Black. Disappears until it comes off.
Putting with a mallet? The Kidderminster Mallet Cover is chevron fabric with a sherpa lining and the same magnetic closure. See everything in Putter Covers.
Classic style, casual vibes. It has been our line since day one, and the putter cover is where it shows most. It comes out on every green and sits on the fringe while you read the line. Pick one you will be glad to see there.
